Job Hunting Tips

You Don't Need Another Coach. You Need a Diagnosis.

There is no shortage of good general advice out there. Fix the CV. Post on LinkedIn. Apply more. All of it can be useful, and none of it tells you which set is the right one for you to build—That is where Expat Careers starts.

Most people come to us with a bag of Lego pieces.

Some pieces are already assembled. Some are attached in the wrong place. Sometimes the bag is completely unsorted. And often a few of those pieces don’t even belong to the set that actually makes sense for you to build.

Everything begins with diagnostics

From your very first intro call, we go into your actual situation. Not a template, not a checklist. Your goals, your strengths, your history, and what the market is currently asking for.

The key word is asking. Plenty of coaching focuses on polishing what you offer. Our work is about connecting what you offer to what the market actively wants. Those are two different things, and the gap between them is usually the reason a search stalls.

You come out of diagnostics with a clear picture of your point B, built together with me, and with the confidence that it is the right one.

We work only with expats

I specialise exclusively in expats and the challenges expats face. These are not the same challenges local candidates deal with.

Some of these challenges simply sit in the blind zone for coaches who have not been expats themselves and have not walked this path. They are not doing anything wrong. It is just hard to anticipate obstacles you have never personally hit.

We also focus specifically on international companies and English-speaking environments in Germany, which is where most expat careers are actually built.

Your roadmap, then your team

Every client starts with me. I am the lead coach and the lead diagnostician. That is our quality guarantee.

After diagnostics, I build your roadmap based on your situation and the number of hours you have been granted by the Arbeitsamt or Jobcenter. Then I tell you exactly where your remaining hours should go.

You are not automatically assigned a coach, and you are not asked to pick one yourself. Because honestly, how are you supposed to choose a coach when you don’t yet know what you need? That diagnostic judgement is my job, and it is my actual superpower.

So the roadmap might look like this:

  • Your positioning is strong but invisible. A portion of your hours goes to our LinkedIn expert to build a real strategy, not a profile refresh.

  • Your self-presentation is holding you back. You need to be seen through a recruiter’s eyes, so your hours go to a coach with over 10 years of recruitment experience inside English-speaking companies in Germany.

  • Something else entirely. Then we build something else entirely.

My second talent, after diagnostics, is spotting talent in other people. Every coach on this team is a master of their craft. I personally vouch for each of them, and each one amplifies the result we are aiming at.

The outcome is that no two people ever walk the same path through Expat Careers. Every roadmap is genuinely individual, because it is built after the diagnosis, not before it.

Boutique on purpose

This level of involvement has a cost, and the cost is scale.

We keep our client numbers limited. That is a deliberate choice, not a marketing line. I personally start the work with every single client, and that is only possible if there aren’t too many of them.

We track the results

Right now, 50% of our clients find a job within two months of finishing their coaching.

Most of that is you. Your effort, your follow-through, your courage in the rooms you walk into. But I will say without hesitation that the support you get from Expat Careers meaningfully increases your odds, and that there is nothing else on the market offering this level of tailored diagnostics and service.

If you are ready to stop building at random and find out what you should actually be building, book your intro call. The diagnosis starts here.

About Jenia

I've been a VP in AdTech, led a team at Apple in Berlin, and still ended up unemployed in Germany — wondering what I was actually good at.

So I did what I now help my clients do: figured out how to position myself and translate my experience for the German market.

Today I work as a Director at an advertising agency and run Expat Careers, a coaching program specifically for expats navigating the German job market.

With 10+ years in senior leadership and HR — on the hiring side — I know exactly what employers are looking for, and why talented expats keep getting overlooked.

I help you stop applying to everything and start landing the right roles — with a clear strategy, strong materials, and the confidence to sell yourself to the right people.

Coaching is available free through the AVGS voucher, or privately.
